Michelle Trotter-Mathison, PhD, LP

STAFF PSYCHOLOGIST

Michelle Trotter-Mathison, PhD, LP, is a licensed psychologist and staff psychologist at LeaderWise, where she accompanies individuals in ministry through reflective explorations of their vocational paths. She integrates psychological assessment data with conversations about personal strengths, areas for growth, and the deeper callings that shape one’s work and identity. Michelle is especially passionate about supporting those in relationship-intense professions, helping them cultivate resilience and sustain well-being in the midst of meaningful, often emotionally demanding work.

In addition to her work at LeaderWise, Michelle is in private practice in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she works with individuals navigating the complexities of emotional well-being, resilience, and self-compassion. Drawing on the practices of mindfulness and shame resilience, she invites clients into deeper connection with themselves—cultivating courage, authenticity, and presence in both personal and professional life. As a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator trained through Dr. Brené Brown’s organization, Michelle incorporates research-based approaches to help individuals explore vulnerability as a path to strength and growth.

Michelle earned both her MA and PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota. She is the co-author of The Resilient Practitioner and co-editor of Voices from the Field: Defining Moments in Counselor and Therapist Development, work that reflects her long-standing interest in how professionals develop, thrive, and find meaning in their work.

Outside of her work, Michelle enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, sewing, gardening and trying out new restaurants around the Twin Cities.
